This morning Krista Sederwall and Priti Choudhry from CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) trained a core group of MESH staff in how to use videos to document MESH's work. With wonderful 2 minute and 4 minute examples from their own work we learned how we are all producers when we have a camera in our hand and how to make the best use of the time and the opportunities to film we must first do a pre-production plan. Their examples illustrated the way wide, medium and close-up shots can be used with effect in different stages of the story and also how a good story on film will need an action shot followed by a reaction shot. We also now know how long we need to shoot to have enough material for a typical 3-5 second shot. Simple instructions about using the camera in the same way that the eye sees and clever but simple things to make sure that the film will flow easily after editing left us all raring to give it a go.
This is the first time we have had any professional instruction and we are very much looking forward to seeing what each of the staff team can come up with that will help us to tell you our stories.
Priti and Krista are professional film makers who both teach the subject to other Christian media personnel. Thanks to them and CBN for their help.
